What is a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter or GFCI? It is a control device that shuts off power to a circuit when it detects that the power is flowing along an unintended pathway. This could be a person, water, or crossing wires. GFCi’s are required in kitchens, unfinished basements, bathrooms & garages among other places.
GFCI’s need to be checked every month, but if you notice that your GFCi’s are constantly overloading and need to be reset, you may have a more serious problem. If this is the case, you should call and schedule an appointment so that RMS Electric can troubleshoot the problem and prevent further damage to your homes electrical grid.
